Anselm Cormier Co-operative Development Centre |
In 2006, the Conseil purchased the old convent in the community of Cheticamp and made renovations to accommodate a new call centre. The Conseil decided to name the new Co-operative Development Centre in honour of its first Executive Director, Mr. Anselm Cormier. Mr. Cormier died in 2005.
It was Mr. Anselm Cormier who laid the foundation for the Conseil of today. Thanks to his and the Council’s determination and effort that several co-operatives were developed to meet the needs of the community, including a youth workers co-operative, housing cooperatives – La Manoir St-Pierre and La Résidence Acadienne – a co-operative daycare and a co-operative community radio station. Today, the Centre has become the headquarters for the Conseil, which also has offices and meeting rooms to rent.
